Skin Care 101: Handling Stress

 

If there is a silent killer, it would be stress. It can take over your body, relationship, career and everything in between if left unresolved or unattended. Singaporeans are not immune to stress. It is normal but some choose to handle it better. It is high time that you learn how to handle it in case you are worried of the things that it can do with your body.

It is not new that stress can affect the whole body from the skin to the nails and hairs. Speaking of skin, when you are stressed, the body will release chemicals that will make the skin reactive and more sensitive. If stress is always there, no matter medical treatments, the skin will have hard time to heal. Blame cortisol and other hormones.

When cortisol is released to the system, it can direct the sebaceous glands to generate more oil. You already know that, oily skin is prone to acne, psoriasis, eczema, rosacea and other skin problem. You already have a present skin care treatments but because of stress, it will aggravate more skin problems. If you can contain it, better but for those who cannot, they feel embarrassed and keep to themselves – that is like adding more insult to injury.

Here are some ways to handle stress as part of your skin care treatment:

  • Do exercise: When you think about exercise, it will bring you lots of unpleasant memories. The cramps and the sweat are unpleasant but if you realize the miracle it can do, you will always exercise. It is time that you get regular exercise. It can be an effective way to handle stress plus it can make the body healthier.

 

  • Follow that regimen: It is important that you establish a skin regimen. The least that you can do for your skin is to take care of it. Even if you are stressed and tired, always follow your regimen. Do not let any disorder rise above your skin care treatment. For better ideas, you can always ask your dermatologists.

 

  • Get sleep: Things tend to worsen if you have no sleep. Depriving yourself of sleep is actually counterproductive. Sleep for at least eight hours and they will see you glow.

 

  • Train yourself for stress management techniques: It is better to seek for professional help through counsellors but if you think you know your body well, you should make sure to practice stress management techniques like yoga, breathing exercises and meditation. If that is not enough, seek for someone. Sometimes it is better to have someone you can share things with.
